Herdshare Program

What is a Herdshare?

Not everyone has the opportunity and resources to raise farm animals, such as goats. A Herdshare is a way to own a portion of a herd, which entitles you to a portion of the pure raw goat milk as it is produced by your percentage of the animals. You pay a monthly fee for the cost of managing and maintaining the herd and receive a weekly portion of the milk they produce, depending on how many shares of the herd you own. We think the cost is an outstanding bargain for those who wish to have access to the dairy products that come with owning a percentage of the herd.

  • $20.00 per Herdshare - a one time fee to purchase a portion of the herd

  • $32.00 per share per month Share fee - for boarding and care of the goats*

  • For just a little over $8 per week per share, you will be entitled to a corresponding percentage of the herd’s weekly milk production along with other benefits that are included with the share. All that without the daily commitment of being there to provide the ongoing needs of the herd! We are here to do that for you.

*At Avi Izzim, each of our goats will average about seven gallons of milk per week. This will vary slighty up or down depending on the age of the goat, the number of kids the goat has, and where in the lactation cycle we are along with other environmental factors. Our Herdshares are equivalent to 1/7th of one goat per share. The total number of Herdshares available will be dependant on how many goats we have in lactation for that season.

Our goats get a vacation where they do not produce milk from December through March to ensure they are able to produce healthy kids in the spring. For special circumstances we may be able to help you “bank” a portion of your shares as frozen milk for the off months. Talk to us well in advance if you anticipate such need. During the goats “vacation” time, there will be no Share Fee for herd maintenance.

What Can You do with Fresh Raw Goat’s Milk?

Besides just drinking a cold glass of fresh raw milk, there are so many delicious and healthy items to make with goat’s milk:

  • Yogurt

  • Kefir

  • Buttermilk

  • Cheese

  • Ice Cream

  • Butter

  • Pet food

  • Pasteurized milk if you prefer

It is also great to use in body care products, such as:

  • Soap

  • Lotion

  • Facial cleanser

  • Lip balm

  • Hair conditioner

  • Creams and ointments

Why Raw Goat’s Milk?

  • Raw goat milk has been used for thousands of years as a delicious source of nutrition along with being an outstanding substitute for breastmilk, and for orphan puppies, kittens, piglets, calves, and foals, as it is kinder on tender stomachs than cows milk and much more nutritious than artificial substitutes.

  • Individuals with cow's milk allergies are often able to digest goat’s milk, as the casein protein responsible for allergies in cow’s milk (A1) is not present in goat milk, which naturally has the A2 casein protein.

  • If you are lactose-intolerant, you may be able to enjoy goat milk - the amount of lactose in goat milk is lower, and a raw product contains the enzymes and probiotics that your body can use to help digest it.

  • Goat milk is naturally homogenized, which means that the fat globules take a long time to rise to the top. The fat globules are also smaller, and so are easier to digest.

  • Goat milk is naturally higher in calcium, potassium, phosphorus, and Vitamin A than cow milk.

What are other benefits of a Herdshare?

We have many great recipes and ideas to share as well as offering workshops to teach you how to use your raw goat milk to make a variety of food and body care products.

You will have opportunity to schedule visits to get to know the animals in the herd and see how things are done here at Avi Izzim.

We encourage you to do your own research to determine the benefits versus potential risks of consuming or using raw milk products.
